Division
[edit]Why are the Capitals in the southeast division? Washington, D.C. isn't in the southeast, shouldn't they be in the atlantic division or something?--Stang281 05:33, 16 December 2006 (UTC)
- It's in the southeast compared to the rest of the league. And the rest of the continent, come to that. Ravenswing 05:08, 16 December 2006 (UTC)
- I guess you have a point. I was watching the game against the Thrashers earlier tonight and heard the announcer say that this was a great southeast division rivalry and I rewinded it and recorded that onto the DVR because I thought he made a mistake. I just think they should be in a different division, maybe the division that the Minnesota Wild are in. More opinions are welcome, just wanted to discuss this with some fellow hockey fans. :) --Stang281 05:33, 16 December 2006 (UTC)
- Well, this isn't a hockey forum, per se, and discussing the issue at length should go to one. That being said, since the NHL groups its divisions geographically, the odds of Washington and Minnesota ever being in the same division are extremely remote. Ravenswing 17:19, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

Radio
[edit]Why is the 820 frequency of WTOP listed as the station? The Caps aired on WTNT/570 last season and there's been no official announcement yet about the radio for the upcoming season. -EvWill 00:23, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
Jonas Johansson only played one game with the Capitals this season, does he really warrent being mentioned? So many players played in the minors and had stints with the big club this year it's tricky to pin down players to mention in this category. Thoughts? Volsus 04:50, 6 June 2006 (UTC)
- He's not on the Caps' roster according to their own website. I say pitch him. Ravenswing 06:44, 6 June 2006 (UTC)
May want to add Eric Fehr. Internet Hockey Database has him on there.--Biggie 00:19, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
- When the Caps add him to the roster, officially, I'm sure someone will. Ravenswing 06:13, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

Except the reference is to the capital of the country, not the status of the letters ;).

List of Washington Capitals players
[edit]I have started a List of Washington Capitals players. When you add players to the main Capitals article, could you also add the players to the list? Thanks! Masterhatch 11 August 2005
Kolzig
[edit]I thought Kolzig is a German national that just happened to be born in South Africa. Ie: If my American mother gave birth to me in Switzerland, I would still be American (although I could probably apply for dual citizenship). He plays for the German national team. I knew this was going to happen when I added the flags. ccwaters 22:35, 8 September 2005 (UTC)
- That, and he technically has an umlaut over the O in his name.
- I don't see many english publications mentioning "Kölzig". We been through this many many times... ccwaters 23:18, 4 February 2006 (UTC)
- Well, that's because English doesn't have umlauts.
- Welcome to the english version of wikipedia.org :) ccwaters 19:40, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
- I give up.
- I have a mini-"reference page" on my userspace if you want to use it as a sort of guide when it comes to player flags. It was originally a proposed guideline but it kind of got abandoned, though I still update the page as I go along. --Buchanan-Hermit™..CONTRIBS..SPEAK! 07:13, 1 March 2006 (UTC)
As a native English speaker who also speaks German, it is correct to spell his name as Koelzig, if an umlaut cannot be applied. This applies to any of the vowels in German which take an umlaut... Jägermeister/Jaegermeister, asf. —Ƿōdenhelm (talk) 13:47, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
Ivan Majesky
[edit]Ivan Majesky is a Slovak player. He was born in Slovakia, which was a part of Czechoslovakia in that time. He plays for Slovak national team, so it is amazing if there is the Czech national flag beside him. This is exactly the same like Dainius Zubrus, who was born in Lithuania, which was a part of the U.S.S.R. in that time and beside him is the Lithuanian flag and the place of his birth is Lithunia.--Janothird 04:38, 22 October 2005 (UTC)
- In addition: See the official NHL page [1] and see the official Washington Capitals page [2]. Ivan Majesky was born in Banska Bystrica, Slovakia.--Janothird 05:21, 22 October 2005 (UTC)
- If you look at *most* of the rosters, we are using the countries that existed at birth. Zubrus needs to be changed to USSR. He was just an oversight. Yes Majesky should have a slovak flag, but he was born a long time ago in a land called Czechoslovakia. ccwaters 11:57, 22 October 2005 (UTC)
Record
[edit]I've seen the debut year listed as 8-67, which isn't 67 losses in 80. Correction? Trekphiler 04:10, 9 December 2005 (UTC)
- It sure is. That's 8-67-5. Ravenswing 06:12, 9 December 2005 (UTC)
- Wow. That's really, really bad.
Easter Epic
[edit]I added a sentence about the "Easter Epic" playoff game in 1987. I think it deserves a mention since it's a classic game in NHL history, even though the Caps lost. Gujuguy 00:47, 30 September 2006 (UTC)
Ovechkin an Alternate?
[edit]When did this happen? I don't follow the Caps, so I'm not deleting anything yet but where was it announced? Cheers, Dubbya9 02:53, 6 March 2007 (UTC)
- Ovechkin has been wearing an 'A' since Zubrus was traded. Actually, Brashear and Bradley has also worn an 'A' (since Zubrus' departure). I'm not sure if there's 2 Alternates (Sutherby and Ovechkin) or 4 Alternates (Bradley, Brashear, Sutherby and Ovechkin). GoodDay 22:38, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
New Colors/Uniforms
[edit]With the NHL going to a different uniform style, the Caps are indicating they are making dramatic changes in their uniforms with their new "Change is Coming" campaign. The current Capital Dome logo is shown being broken apart by red, white and blue light... —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 69.140.151.250 (talk) 02:47, 8 April 2007 (UTC).
The announced date for the uniform change is June 22, 2007
- Bleh. The blue/bronze uniforms are pretty distinctive, and while I've hated just about every uniform/logo change these last forty years, that was one that looked good. Ravenswing 16:47, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
- Well, I liked their old third jerseys: blue with the eagle, inverse of the current white. I'm hoping that we'll see the black fad fizzle out. I can't imagine a red, white, blue, and BLACK jersey. ccwaters 17:31, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
I like my black jersey. I saw a sneak peak of the new red jersey. Its basically an update of the old Capitals "T" as a hockey stick logo. I'm gonna miss the Eagle and Dome, though Paleridernightwolf 05:40, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit]Article needs a jersey section, complete with whole photos and info. Also, the team mascot needs to be mentioned somewhere. Love each other, or perish. ~Auden 05:22, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
Captains
[edit]Yes, I know the captaincy was 'vacant' for only 8-days (Dec 28, 2009 to Jan 5, 2010). But, it was vacant at the turn of the 'year'. Therefore, no captain, 2009-10. GoodDay (talk) 12:29, 6 January 2010 (UTC)
- Yeah, but come on; that's a trivial distinction. There have to be any number of times where there's been a vacancy in a captaincy over a short stretch, and possibly similar times when there was a vacancy stretching over the new year. I think the list here should be reverted to show no gap. Ravenswing 13:05, 6 January 2010 (UTC)
- We need consistancy & besides, it's for less familiar readers. Jumpers, why couldn't McPhee/Boudreau name him before new years? GoodDay (talk) 13:07, 6 January 2010 (UTC)
- I tend to think it's too trivial, but if we use the dates, I guess it IS accurate. I'll try to pull out the media guide sometime today to see if there were any other "interregnum" periods of this sort over the years (not counting the long one already noted). If so, I think that would lend some credence to the idea of not including super-short gaps. I view it as sort of like listing teams' coaches. Lists of coaches don't include interim coaches (for example, in the Caps coaches' box it doesn't say Boudreau was "interim coach" for a month) or vacancies (technically the Redskins have gone two days with "No coach," for example). Long way of saying that I tend to think that any reasonable reader would understand that there are often short gaps when there is a change of captain (or coach) such that this sort of minuscule gap is too unimportant to need to be listed. 1995hoo (talk) 13:56, 6 January 2010 (UTC)
- Correct, we don't use 'interim' if the person assume a role permanently. This goes for captains too. For example: from Oct-Dec of 1992, the Oilers captain was Kevin Lowe, but he sat out the first half-of the season, due to contract dispute. As a result, Craig MacTavish was interim captain during that time. MacTavish became permanent captain upon Lowe's being traded to the Rangers. Another example: Mike Keane was 'interim' captain for the rest of the 1994-95 season (after Muller's trade to the Islanders), we don't mention it as he was made permanent captain at the start of the 1995-96 season (via players confirmation). GoodDay (talk) 14:42, 6 January 2010 (UTC)

- We don't need no captain for this, it was a matter of 8 days, had there be no captain for the season it would be different. It would be inconsistent for us to list this when there are hundreds of times in the past where teams have gone days without a captain. -DJSasso (talk) 14:05, 6 January 2010 (UTC)
- Ahh come on, I put the (Dec-Jan) descriptive in there. We must remember that there's less familiar readers out there. PS: I was considering (for all NHL articles) to link the years to NHL season - thus Clark's tenure being [2006-07 NHL season|2006] - [2009-10 NHL season|2009] for example. GoodDay (talk) 14:35, 6 January 2010 (UTC)
- So what if he was vacant at the end of the year. We determine captains by season/half season. The fact the switch over happened to happen over the new year isn't relevant. -DJSasso (talk) 15:06, 6 January 2010 (UTC)
I just pulled out this year's media guide DVD, as I suggested above, but the information there is not any more detailed than what is already on this page. It doesn't list "No captain" for the prior period, for what it's worth (and of course this year's scenario isn't listed, as the media guide was prepared prior to all this). I'm sure somebody could find precise captaincy dates, but it won't be me, as I don't care that much about the issue. I think "reasonableness" ought to guide these things and, as I said above, I think a "reasonable" reader would not expect to find a "No captain" entry for a period of eight days after the prior captain was traded. But I don't care enough to waste further time fussing about it! 1995hoo (talk) 15:30, 6 January 2010 (UTC)
- Howabout we delete 'no captain' from all the NHL team articles' captains lists? GoodDay (talk) 16:10, 6 January 2010 (UTC)
- There is no reason to do that. -DJSasso (talk) 16:20, 6 January 2010 (UTC)
- It's the consistancy, that concerns me. GoodDay (talk) 16:24, 6 January 2010 (UTC)
- How many other teams' articles include "No captain" entries for one-week periods? (That's a genuine question. I don't know the answer and I don't really have the time nor the inclination to try to determine the answer myself, as I'm not sure how I'd even go about trying to find the information. I have copies of all 30 teams' media guides, but it would take forever to review all of them.) 1995hoo (talk) 16:49, 6 January 2010 (UTC)
- None, thats what I am trying to explain to GoodDay. We are consistently not adding short time periods to any other team. -DJSasso (talk) 16:57, 6 January 2010 (UTC)
- Shame really, all my groveling gone to waste. GoodDay (talk) 17:10, 6 January 2010 (UTC)

Could the "Records" section be split off
[edit]I'm going to suggest that the Records section be split off into its own article. Other NHL teams don't seem list much more than scoring leaders, which we already have in the Players section. I'm not saying remove it, just create an article like List of Washington Capitals records and statistics.-- Patrick {oѺ∞} 00:21, 5 February 2010 (UTC)
- By all means. FWIW, I've set up List of Calgary Flames records, though there are a few other formats. Resolute 00:39, 5 February 2010 (UTC)
Jersey
[edit]The picture you have for their alternative Jersey is non-existent, that is just one they are using for the winter classic, which to the best of my knowledge, will not become thrown into their regular season selection 69.171.176.95 (talk) 20:55, 6 October 2010 (UTC)
- The Caps are also doing a "Turn Back the Clock Night" on February 1. I think it's generally anticipated that they'll wear these uniforms again for that event, especially as they've announced that they're doing a Dino Ciccarelli recognition that night in honor of his induction into the Hall of Fame. Dino played for the Caps when they wore the original-style sweaters, so it would be illogical for them to use the late '90s/early '00s uniforms for that occasion. Yeah, it might be a stretch to call it an "alternate" uniform when it's being used for just two games, but I suppose it's not technically incorrect.1995hoo (talk) 14:01, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
Dave Fay and Ron Weber
[edit]Weber and Fay are in fact Hockey Hall of Famers. The Hockey Hall of Fame website, under "Honored Members" has a section for broadcasters and writers. Ron Weber was also included in the 2010 induction ceremony (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ji0uJeDHf3M) Writers and broadcasters are in the hockey hall of fame, so those inducted are hockey hall of famers. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.39.175.75 (talk) 00:43, 10 November 2010 (UTC)
- There is a difference between being honoured by the hall which is what they are, and being elected to the hall. People who win the writers/media award have been honoured by the hall but have not become members of the hall. They are two different things.-DJSasso (talk) 00:45, 10 November 2010 (UTC)
- Exactly. Foster Hewitt Award winners are not considered inductees by the HHOF. Resolute 00:47, 10 November 2010 (UTC)
- If you look at the HHOF page you can see the difference. They are called honourees, wheres members are called inductees. -DJSasso (talk) 00:48, 10 November 2010 (UTC)
- It could be solved by noting them as being winners of the Foster Hewett Memorial Award as a subsection under HHOFers though. Resolute 00:49, 10 November 2010 (UTC)
- Yup. -DJSasso (talk) 00:50, 10 November 2010 (UTC)
2010-11 season
[edit]Could someone put in the info for the 2010-11 season? I'm pretty new to Wikipedia so I can't be trusted to do it right. There's a separate page on here titled "2010-11 Washington Capitals season" and you could condense the stuff in that article and put it in here. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.96.119.102 (talk) 00:09, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
- We actually try and do it the opposite way, this page is a summary of the entire life of the franchise, and specific season by season information is supposed to be on their individual season pages. This team page needs to be cleaned up to conform to the standard layout for team pages. -DJSasso (talk) 12:37, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
- Okay, thank you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.96.119.102 (talk) 02:49, 6 January 2011 (UTC)
What's up with the infobox moving?
[edit]I see the lead infobox is now on the left and has moved all the text down. It appears that this has happened in other articles too. Does anyone know what's going on? Is this some new Wikipedia convention? (I tried digging around but couldn't find anything clarifying why this was done.) Quite frankly, it looks like crap this way and it's a pain in the arse to have to scroll past that relatively static information to find the article. Anyone have any clarification on what happened with this? 1995hoo (talk) 16:48, 9 February 2011 (UTC)
- I believe its because someone is playing with an underlying template. Happened the other day for awhile too. And affected every infobox on all articles. But it is back at normal for me now....maybe just reload the page. -DJSasso (talk) 16:53, 9 February 2011 (UTC)
- Odd, it seems to be fixed now; I simply clicked on the link back to the article (without doing a hard refresh by hitting Ctrl-F5) and it was back to normal. Very strange that it affected all articles in the way it did. But thanks for the reply—I am glad to know that it was a more universal issue and not a local problem on my PC due to a browser setting that got changed or some other mishap. 1995hoo (talk) 17:20, 9 February 2011 (UTC)
Infobox needs reworking
[edit]I would say the info box at the top needs to be reworded/updated. Boudreau is no longer a coach for one, and Ted Leonsis revitalizing the team sounds a bit opinionated.
Former AOL executive Ted Leonsis has owned the team since 1999, and has revitalized the franchise by drafting star players such as Alexander Ovechkin, Nicklas Backstrom, Mike Green, and hiring former head coach Bruce Boudreau. The 2009–10 Capitals won the franchise's first-ever Presidents' Trophy, for being the team with the most points at the end of the regular season.

Asst GM included in infobox?
[edit]Do you think the Caps Asst GM (Brian MacLellan) should be included in the infobox along with McPhee (ala L.A. King's wiki article)?Mhoppmann (talk) 18:46, 24 March 2014 (UTC)
- Nope, don't think he should be in the LA one either so I will remedy that. -DJSasso (talk) 11:43, 25 March 2014 (UTC)
Replace Oates reference with current head coach Barry Trotz
[edit]Since Oates tenure was a single season, and did not actually move to revitalize the team, it seems not in keeping with the rest of the statement about Leonsis revitalizing the team. Since Dale took the team to the playoffs and he isn't mentioned, seems better to use Barry as an example of establishing a strong identity since the results so far have proved as such. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.143.17.186 (talk) 04:04, 9 May 2015 (UTC)

Jaroslav Svejkovský
[edit]Hello, I found the article about Jaroslav Svejkovský, in which it states "Svejkovský scored four goals, as Washington beat the Buffalo Sabres 8–3. As of 2011, he is the only Capitals rookie to score four goals in one game." 2011 seems a bit too long ago, does anyone here have any idea whether this is still true and can be updated to 2018? Jdcooper (talk) 10:49, 8 June 2018 (UTC)
- Bump* Can anyone help with this request? Jdcooper (talk) 23:00, 18 June 2018 (UTC)
- It is likely true but without a source I don't know that I would change it. 4 goals for any player especially a rookie is pretty rare. -DJSasso (talk) 01:45, 19 June 2018 (UTC)
